Christmas In Champagne

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 05:52 AM PDT

The Harvest may not have started yet, but it's never too early to plan ahead. With that in mind I've just finalised the details of our Christmas Weekend In Champagne which will be amazing.

Since there are only 10 places available, please contact me ASAP if you are interested.

You can read all the details below or click here for a version with full colour pictures

CHRISTMAS IN CHAMPAGNE

The Harvest's over; the vines are sleeping; all seems quiet, yet there are still 1 billion bottles of champagne resting in the cellars and there's magic in the air.

In fact it's a great time to visit this wonderful region. The busy tourist season has passed and now you can discover the things that summer-time visitors never get to experience.

Perhaps the highlight of this weekend is the Habits de Lumières, the weekend when Epernay, quite literally, lights up the night sky.

It's a rare opportunity to see a different side of champagne and to treat yourself and partner to an inside look at the world's most elegant drink.

There's something for everyone: champagne tasting, fine dining, a little history and time to do a bit of shopping for Christmas presents and, most importantly, to relax, enjoy comfortable surroundings and pamper yourself a little.

Take a look at what's in store for you on this exclusive weekend and then please contact us as soon as possible to reserve your places. We hope you'll join us in December for an unforgettable experience

Jiles & Yvonne Halling

Day 1 Friday 10th December

On this special pre-Christmas weekend we waste no time in getting you into the champagne spirit

On Friday evening we're off to Epernay (Capital du Champagne) to join in with the Habits de Lumières festivities.

On this wonderful weekend, all the magificent champagne houses up and down the length of the famous Avenue de Champagne put on a spectacle that you have to see to believe.

If these buidings are impressive by day, you'll find them truly mesmerizing by night

Each 'maison' is decked out in fairy lights and candles whilst in the street there are parades, clowns, musicians and a fairy-tale atmosphere with the crowds enjoying one of the best evenings of the year.

As we stroll along the Avenue we'll step into to one of the champagne houses for a flute, or two, of champagne.

We'll watch the firework display and soak in the magic of this very special place.

To round off the evening there will be a superb champagne dinner awaiting you at a local restaurant.

Then it's back to your 'home from home' in the vineyards to a warm and luxurious bed.

Day 2 Saturday 11th December

A trip to Champagne just isn't right without some time for champagne tasting and on Saturday morning you'll visit one of the 'great little' champagne makers that we know.

You'll not only find a warm welcome but you'll have the chance to sample some superb champagnes that you'll rarely find outside France and, of course, to stock up for Christmas if you wish.

After a leisurely lunch with the champagne makers, the next stop is Reims, the largest town in Champagne and the historical centre of the region.

Although the city was badly damaged during the First World War when Reims was practically on the front line, many beautiful buildings survived, amongst them the magnificant cathedral where the kings of France were always crowned .

There'll be time for a visit to the annual Christmas market too for a little shopping and to enjoy strolling around the pedestrian precinct surrounded by bars and restaurants on all sides

The city is full of chic boutiques too and if you are stll looking for some exclusive gifts this will be a great opportunity to find something really different.

It will be chilly outside in December so we'll make sure there's time for a warming aperitif, a mulled wine pehaps or a(nother) flute of champagne, but don't worry about driving anywhere, transport is all taken care of. All you need do is relax and enjoy the ride.

In the evening you'll have another chance to discover the surprising range of different champagnes when we enjoy a gourmet dinner with champagne matched with each course. Each dish and each champagne will be explained to you so you get the maximum enjoyment and you'll end up being a bit of a champagne expert yourself!

Day 3 Sunday 12th December

Enjoy a relaxed start to the day and linger over your croissants and coffee – funny how they always taste better in France.

After breakfast you can set off back home if you wish. If you want to spend the rest of the day in Champagne, or even stay an extra night, we'll recommend lots of fascinating things for you to do and see.

As usual on our special champagne weekends, places are limited to 10 people ( 5 couples) so that we can give you our best attention and so that you get the most out of your visit.
